Where to find the Financial Auditing Standards?

Since the migration of the old ISSAI Framework to the new INTOSAI Framework of Professional Pronouncements, many people wonder where to find the former ISSAI 1000-1999 (now ISSAI 2000-2999) series of Financial Auditing Standards.

The thing is that these standards are development by the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB)IAASB is the independent standard-setting body of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). They are the ones that develop, revise and withdraw the Financial Auditing Standards.

However, the INTOSAI Professional Standards Committee (PSC) has signed a formal agreement with the IFAC and the IAASB that allows us to use IFACs standards directly in our audit work. This way, there is no need for the INTOSAI to develop audit guidance related to financial auditing.

How to access the Financial Audit Standards?

We can access the Financial Auditing Standards directly at the IAASB websiteThe issai.org does not host copies of them to avoid needless duplicationThey are available under ‘Standards & Pronouncements‘. You need to register / log in to access this service. The service is free of charge.

Note that we give the standards an “ISSAI” rather than an “ISA” number. This means that the numbering in the range ISSAI 2200-2810 will follow the principle that the International Standards on Auditing (ISA) no. xxx is included as ISSAI 2xxx in the IFPP. The Financial Auditing Practice Notes to former ISSAIs  1200-1810 are currently under review.
